Dr. Lawrence Koutcher serves the radiation oncology needs of patients throughout the Hudson Valley. He is Medical Director of two facilities: PROS, Poughkeepsie, and the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Cancer Center, Cortlandt Manor, NY. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Scranton, PA.
A magna cum laude graduate of Columbia University, Dr. Koutcher received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where he earned a National Cancer Institute Fellowship. He also earned the King's College Leadership Award for Community Service. After completing an internship in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital Queens, he performed his four-year Radiation Oncology residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Department of Radiation Oncology, New York City, and was selected as Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Koutcher has extensive experience in the application of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), as well as brachytherapy. He also serves as a scientific reviewer for the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics.
He has presented his research findings on Head and Neck cancer, Lung cancer, and Breast cancer at numerous conferences nationwide, in addition to authoring many peer-reviewed publications. He is an active member of many professional societies including the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), the New York Roentgen Society (NYRS) and the American Medical Association (AMA).
